We work with selected production partners whom we have trusted for many years. Personal contacts and close exchanges are extremely important to us. And we are able to exert our influence with regular visits to them. As a reliable contractor, we strive for wages that are above the minimum, and also require additional voluntary social benefits such as free healthcare or travel to and from work.

SCHROZBERG
Germany – This is where HAKRO is at home. All our products are designed, developed and tested in Schrozberg. The goods are shipped from here to customers all over Europe. Our "never-out-of-stock" warehouse always has more than six million textiles ready for dispatch.

Istanbul, Turkey – With good working conditions, the highest manufacturing quality and short routes, Turkey is our first choice of production location. HAKRO's own sales office in Turkey coordinates and monitors all the local production.

Dhaka, Bangladesh – One-third of HAKRO Basics is produced in Bangladesh. We work closely with a partner of many years' standing who produces for HAKRO at fair, safe and responsible conditions.

Vientiane, Laos – In this still rather under-industrialised country, we have found responsible cooperation partners who have built up exemplary operations. Shirts and functional clothing are produced here for HAKRO.

Dongguan, China – We have exclusive knitwear and jackets made in Dongguan. In close cooperation with selected production facilities that fulfil the HAKRO standards and whom we have trusted for many years.

OUR MOST IMPORTANT SITE: TURKEY

We have been producing high-quality textiles in Turkey for over 25 years now. Around 40% of our entire production is manufactured on the European side of the Bosporus by our long-term partner near Istanbul. Remaining loyal to one and the same production partner for decades is, to us, a matter of course. Continuity provides quality. 80% of the staff of this operation near Istanbul have been employed by the company for between 5 and 12 years. And every single member of staff is an expert in their field. All the sewing is done in modern, air-conditioned workplaces. The voluntary social benefits provided by our partner include a shuttle bus service and free lunch in the company's own canteen.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO PRODUCE TEXTILES IN BANGLADESH WITH A CLEAR CONSCIENCE?

Yes, it is! In fact, we've been doing so since 1999, and we've also found a production partner here who works to our values and principles. Because as a textiles company, it is particularly important to lead by example in Bangladesh. We take our responsibility extremely seriously, and by doing so we are contributing towards the country's development and improving the living conditions of many people.

That is why our production in Bangladesh follows the principles of the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), the world's leading standard for the processing of textiles made from organically grown natural fibres. It defines the environmental requirements along the entire production chain and the social criteria that need to be observed.

LONG-TERM PARTNERSHIPS IN LAOS

In 2011 and 2012 we began our long-term collaborations with our two production partners in Laos. Two committed textiles companies that have built up exemplary operations in Vientiane. We have our fleece products, shirts and blouses made there. The wages the businesses pay their staff are above the minimum, and they also provide numerous voluntary social benefits such as a works canteen, company doctor and a range of educational measures. We visit our production partners in Laos at least once a year, and support our partners with the implementation of good social and ecological working conditions.

LONG-TERM PARTNERS IN CHINA TOO

Part of our collection is produced in China. We have built up long-term partnerships with three textiles companies here. Outdoor jackets are made for us in Dongguan and Xiamen, while another business in Shenzen produces high-quality knitwear for us. The partnerships are based on acceptance of the Code of Conduct of amfori BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative), which is confirmed by certificates and independent audits. We also visit the businesses at least once a year to see for ourselves how the standards are being observed and to develop social and ecological working conditions.

SAFETY IS OUR MAIN PRIORITY

One in five members of staff at our partner company in Dhaka is a fire safety or first aid specialist. An external company with experienced specialists was brought in to train the staff. The manufacturing sites comply with the latest requirements for fire and building safety. There are regular emergency drills including evacuation of the entire building. All areas are equipped with fire-fighting equipment and first aid kits that are regularly checked, maintained and updated.

20% OF ALL OUR PARTNER'S STAFF IN DHAKA ARE TRAINED FIRE FIGHTERS OR FIRST AIDERS.

THE BENEFIT FOR ALL EMPLOYEES: HAKRO CARES

We want to offer the people in our partner companies more than just a safe workplace. This desire resulted in the HAKRO CARES initiative. A motto and a promise. HAKRO CARES finances voluntary social benefits by our production partners for their staff such as food donations for Eid ul adha, the Islamic "Festival of the Sacrifice", immunisations and a regular medical surgery.
